If preservation is loosely specified, you risk torn wrap, saturated desiccant and corrosion on bearings, windings and fuel components before the unit is ever installed. That means rejected lots, warranty disputes, refurbishment you did not budget for and commissioning delays while replacement parts are sourced.
USP&E as Your Guide to Equipment That Arrives Dry
We understand that a wholesale lot is only a good buy if it arrives in the condition you paid for. Since 2002 USP&E has delivered 150+ power projects and 25,000 MW contracted, and our 400+ engineers and project managers inspect, preserve, ship and commission turbine packages and gensets across long export routes. We work under ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified systems with FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.
List Film, Desiccant and Indicator Requirements per Crate
Your preservation pack should list, for every gas turbine generator crate and diesel lot, the barrier film type, sealing method, desiccant quantity and humidity-indicator cards required. Desiccant should be calculated from the enclosed volume, the film’s moisture transmission and the expected voyage and storage time, not simply thrown in by the bag. Flanges, openings and electrical enclosures need their own covers and internal desiccant.
Specify internal preservation alongside your wrap: corrosion-inhibiting oils for bearings and gear surfaces, vapour-phase inhibitors in enclosed spaces, sealed fuel and lube systems and anti-condensation measures for generators. A perfect outer film does little if the bearings were never fogged with inhibitor or a fuel line was left open before sealing.
Name who inspects and signs each crate before closure, so preservation is a witnessed step in your export pack rather than an assumption.
Photograph Wrap Integrity and Quarantine Failed Crates
Photograph wrap integrity, desiccant placement and indicator cards before sealing, and again on arrival before any crate is opened. Matching photos make your insurance and warranty claims far stronger, and they show you where damage occurred along the route. Record crate numbers, film lots and indicator readings together so every image ties to a specific shipment.
Quarantine any crate with torn film or wet indicators before unpacking. Move it to a dry, controlled area, record its condition, then open it under supervision and inspect bearings, windings and machined surfaces for corrosion. Decide whether the unit needs cleaning, drying or refurbishment before it joins your accepted stock, rather than letting damp equipment sit beside your dry lots.
Store accepted crates off the ground, under cover and away from wash-down areas, and recheck indicator cards on a fixed schedule while they wait for installation. Preservation does not end at the port gate, and a crate that sat for months in a damp yard can fail even when it arrived in perfect condition.
Cover Failed Lots and Plan Warehouse Space
If a lot fails preservation checks, refurbishment can take weeks. Keep a remanufactured GE Frame 6B or used/new gas turbines as cover so your project or customer delivery is not stalled while damaged units are dried and repaired. Log relative-humidity readings and film lots into the wholesale logistics pack so recurring problems can be traced to a packer, route or storage yard.
Leave warehouse space for modular gas turbine modules on later orders so you can store them under cover with the same humidity controls. Buyers serving natural gas engines/stations, AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute should keep preservation, shipping and commissioning under one hyperscale EPC/O&M team, so the people who seal the crates also answer for what is inside them.

FAQ: Wholesale GT Preservation Film Pack
What should a wholesale GT preservation film pack include?
USP&E specifies barrier film, sealing method, calculated desiccant, humidity indicators and internal inhibitors for every crate. The pack also covers flange and enclosure covers, witnessed sealing, photos before closure and on arrival, quarantine rules for wet or torn crates and humidity logs in the wholesale logistics pack.
How much desiccant does a turbine crate need?
USP&E calculates desiccant from the enclosed volume, the film’s moisture transmission rate and the expected voyage and storage time. Guessing by the bag leaves crates saturated halfway through the route, so the calculation, placement and indicator cards are recorded for each crate before it is sealed.
Where are USP&E’s offices for wholesale equipment buyers?
USP&E’s offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town lead crate inspections and arrival checks for industrial and export lots. Colorado Springs and Knoxville support US campus buyers, London supports structuring, contracts and finance, and Wuxi follows up China packing, film lots and supply chain checks.
Has USP&E delivered wholesale-scale power equipment before?
USP&E supplied 28 Cummins KTA50 containerised diesel gensets, 1,275 kVA each, for Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania. USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers. Public work also includes six zero-hour surplus Wabtec gensets packaged and serviced for the Zondereinde platinum mine.
Is USP&E a broker for wholesale gas turbines and gensets?
USP&E is not a broker. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor that inspects, preserves, ships and commissions equipment, so the engineers who specify your crate preservation also witness arrival checks and stay accountable when the unit reaches site.
How fast can USP&E respond to a preservation pack request?
USP&E can start reviewing your lot list, packing specifications and shipping route as soon as you share them under NDA. Engineers flag desiccant, sealing and inspection gaps first, then issue the preservation pack, with timing set by yard readiness and the vessel schedule.
What should happen when a crate arrives with wet indicators?
USP&E quarantines any crate with wet indicators or torn film before unpacking. The crate is moved to a dry area, photographed and opened under supervision so bearings, windings and machined surfaces can be inspected, and the unit is dried or refurbished before it joins accepted stock.
Why log humidity readings and film lots?
USP&E logs relative humidity, indicator readings and film lot numbers for every crate so recurring failures can be traced to a packer, route or storage yard. Those records support insurance and warranty claims and help you tighten preservation specifications on later wholesale orders.
