Wholesale GT Warranty Terms Pack

You buy power equipment wholesale and resell it to project buyers, and warranties sit in the middle of every deal. Your supplier’s terms rarely match what your customers expect, and the gaps only show when something fails.

Weak wholesale warranty terms leave you squeezed: your customer claims against you, your supplier rejects your claim and you pay the difference. Unclear start dates, missing preservation records or non-assignable terms can turn one failure into lost margin and a damaged relationship.

USP&E as Your Guide to Wholesale Terms That Protect Your Margin

Your wholesale purchases need their own terms because equipment may sit in storage, change hands and be installed long after you buy it. Standard warranties often start at shipment, which can leave little or no cover by the time your customer commissions the unit.

Recognise Why Wholesale Purchases Need Their Own Terms

Map your warranty chain: what your supplier gives you, what you give your customer and where they differ. Every gap is a risk you carry, whether or not anyone has noticed it yet. Close gaps by negotiating supplier terms, limiting what you offer or pricing the risk into the deal.

Adding modular gas turbines beside an HFO fleet is still a wholesale programme: lot screening, acceptance evidence, paralleling honesty, and O&M training — not a brochure drop. Used and new GT packages should clear the same diligence culture the site already uses for recip lots.

Define Covered Scope, Condition, Start Triggers and Preservation

Define exactly what is covered: which components, what types of defect and what remedies apply. For used or refurbished units, state the condition clearly in the contract, with inspection reports and test results attached, so nobody can later claim the unit was represented differently.

Start triggers matter: shipment, delivery, commissioning or a fixed long-stop date. Choose one that your customer will accept and your supplier can live with. Many warranties require proper storage and preservation, so keep records of heaters, desiccant and inspections. Missing preservation records are a common reason claims fail, so make record keeping a condition of every storage arrangement you use.

Settle Transfer, Assignment, Back-to-Back Terms and Claims

Wholesale lots move title across borders, entities, and sometimes OEMs. Warranty that looked solid on a single-unit retail invoice can become an orphan after a multi-unit assignment if transfer language, evidence packs, and O&M pathways were never designed.

Wholesale projects often move title through an SPV, an EPC contractor, and an end-user operator. Warranty assignment must name which entity can claim, which entity holds residual OEM rights, and which entity operates under USP&E O&M if that path is chosen. Vague “buyer” language creates orphan claims when the operator is not the title holder.

Your path from first call to reliable power

No power station is ever complete from gensets alone. Switchgear, transformers, cables, earthing, fuel headers, cooling, exhaust, and acoustic packages decide whether paralleling is reliable. Wholesale buyers who under-spec BOP discover the problem at load bank — or worse, at first production night. Honest scope definition is a trust builder: USP&E states what is not included until engineering closes the site-specific list.

  1. List every unit in the transaction with its intended destination, storage plan, and installing party.
  2. State the basis of cover for each unit: manufacturer pass-through for new equipment, or inspection-backed representations for a remanufactured GE Frame 6B and other used or new gas turbines.
  3. Fix start triggers, long-stop dates, and preservation duties for units that will be stored.
  4. Add assignment and back-to-back clauses so cover follows each unit to new owners or EPC contractors, including natural gas engines in mixed fleets.
  5. Write the claims procedure and align terms with availability commitments and any modular FX-45 OCGT 45MW / CCGT 108MW 2×1 phases (50/60 Hz, capacity slots from 2028).
  6. Agree the pack before payment instruments open, then file it with commissioning baselines for O&M.

Common questions

Why do wholesale gas turbine purchases need their own warranty terms?

USP&E treats wholesale warranties separately because equipment may sit in storage, change hands and be installed long after purchase. Standard warranties often start at shipment, leaving little cover by commissioning, and gaps between supplier and customer terms fall on the wholesaler.

When should a wholesale warranty start?

USP&E recommends agreeing a start trigger that fits the deal, such as delivery or commissioning with a fixed long-stop date. Starting at shipment can leave buyers with little cover, while open-ended starts are hard for suppliers to accept, so the long-stop balances both.

Why do wholesale warranty claims fail?

USP&E most often sees claims fail because of missing preservation records, unclear start dates, condition disputes and non-assignable terms. Keeping inspection reports, storage records and clear contract wording protects every party in your chain when a defect appears after delivery.

Can a wholesale warranty be assigned to the end buyer?

USP&E checks assignment rights in every supplier warranty, because many terms restrict transfer. Where assignment is not allowed, back-to-back terms can pass claims up the chain, but they need careful drafting so notice periods and evidence requirements line up at every level of the chain.
